Job Description:

The Student Conservation Association (SCA), a national force of youth conservation volunteers, has an exciting opportunity in our Program Department. The position is based in Philadelphia, PA.

America’s #1 youth conservation service organization seeks a qualified applicant who will work as part of a regional team and assist the Regional Program Manager in the oversight of local and regional programming in the Philadelphia area (including Camden, NJ.) In addition the Program Manager will supervise Crew Leaders, deliver support for members, and ensure that both site partner and member outcomes are achieved in a safe and responsible manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsibility for high quality delivery of programming in portfolio in accordance with SCA’s safety standards
  • Interviews, selects and manages leaders
  • Participates in and supports local and regional events as needed
  • Guides recruiting, application and selection process for members of local and regional teams and special initiatives.
  • Cultivates leads for new and expanded program opportunities consistent with their portfolio
  • Supports Safety and Training team with the implementation of leader and member trainings and work skills; leads and facilitates when appropriate
  • Manages field level resources in a manner that is consistent with SCA’s mission and risk management standards
  • Maintains relationships with local partners and seeks out new partnership opportunities.
  • Roves program in the field and completes appropriate documentation, such as performance reviews of leaders, approval of time-sheets, receipt/expense reporting, etc.
  • Serves as Duty Officer and/or Program Responder and participates in incident response, as needed

Accountabilities:

  • Work in collaboration with regional team members to create and support a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, teamwork and empowerment.
  • Provides support, resources, and feedback necessary for leaders to successfully complete their assigned duties, including administrative functions such as receipt and time management
  • Interviews and selects leaders
  • Manages program-specific expenses to budget
  • Maintains accurate, up-to-date opportunity and project data and communications in MySCA and Paycom
  • Ensures that all program activities follow SCA standard operating procedures as outlined in program handbooks and other SCA policies
  • Completes project level reporting in accordance with SCA standards
  • Ensure that each member within the program works within a safe environment, understands and adheres to SCA policy and procedure, and is being provided an opportunity for a positive member experience
  • Maintain current knowledge of all SCA programs
  • Foster an environment that promotes teamwork between SCA members, staff and site partners
  • Represent a positive and professional image of SCA
  • Understand and follow all policies and procedures as outlined in the SCA Employee Handbook, the Field Operation Standards, and the Emergency Response System handbook

Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree with specific major in field of endeavor or relevant coursework/work experience related to the specific field preferred
  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience including skills related to the position such as program coordination, leadership in an outdoor setting and experience working with programmatic partners. Prior SCA field leader experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated team leadership and/or supervisory experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a highly mobile, fast-paced team
  • Strong computer skills particularly in MS Office
  • SalesForce experience a plus
  • Willingness and ability to travel a minimum of 25% of the time
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Valid Driver’s license and driving record within SCA guideline
  • Must pass SCA criminal background check
